My name is Tsveta Valerieva Eroteeva, otherwise known as Valerie Black. As you can see from my name, I was born and grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria, and although I now live in the UK, Bulgaria has a strong influence on my work, such as my love of traditional drawing techniques and choice of subject matter.
Having worked previously with traditional techniques such as drypoint, lithography, etching and linocut, I now mainly work digitally, sometimes incorporating scanned in images and found material, combining traditional and digital media.
My interests encompass ancient history and mythology to fantasy and fairytales. I gather my inspiration from a variety of sources, including books, nature, everyday life and old masters such as Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, Goya, Honore Daumier, Hieronymus Bosch and Rubens.
